Toxic pollution threatens residents near the port

The polluted environment surrounding the Nabada district in Poti, where thousands of residents live next to Georgia’s largest port complex.

Bulk industrial materials — including sulphur, coal, clinker, and metal concentrates — are stored and handled in open areas without adequate protection. Wind disperses toxic dust into nearby homes, while residents are also exposed to continuous noise from arriving cargo trucks and port operations. The images show tThe proximity of the port facilities to residential areas and the environmental conditions shape everyday life for the residents living in this part of Poti.
